Even though Ed and I are still working – me from home, Ed still going to the warehouse every day – and the girls now have school from home, the weekdays and the weekends sometimes blur into one. There are only a few routines to keep them separated in my mind.

Friday night has become our “take out” dinner night. Whenever we get dinner from Over the Falls, our most favorite local restaurant, Ed and I usually ride together. It’s sort of our date night.

Dinner was delicious, made especially special because I did not have to cook it.

We got to see some of our B3 friends via Zoom. Dad jokes were told, wacky background changes were made, and either everyone was trying to talk at once or the silence was deafening because no one was talking. It was great! We loved seeing everyone’s faces and hearing their voices and trying to catch up on life.

The weekend I think could be summed up with the phrase “kitchen success and flops.” There was a lot of cooking and food preparation going on and not much else.

On Saturday, as we all stayed in our pajamas for literally over 24 hours, we had a choice of bacon-lettuce-tomato sandwiches made a little extra special with honey fig goat cheese or grilled bacon-cheese-apple sandwiches made with hoop cheese. Both sandwiches featured smoked bacon courtesy of Ed. Both sandwiches were delicious!

Hot dogs were on the menu for Sunday lunch but I forgot to buy hot dog buns when I ordered groceries last. So I gave making homemade hot dog buns a whirl and that’s where the “flop” part of the weekend phrase comes into play.

They ended up like a really thin yeast roll cracker, extra crispy on the bottom.

Obviously several things went wrong with the making of these rolls but one thing is for sure, we all had quite a few laughs over them!

They were actually very edible so we snacked on them while watching Apollo 13 Saturday nights.

Sunday morning we had church and homemade powdered donuts between the two services.

We still had our hot dogs but made use of some amazing brioche hamburger buns I did have on hand making them “dog burgers” instead.

The girls and I did a lot of reading. The girls are currently reading all of the Rick Riordan series. I finished reading a book I started Thursday night, The River by Peter Heller. This one was incredibly good, a thriller and suspenseful but not the usual murder/crime type of thrillers.

And that really is about it. It was rainy Saturday morning. We were pretty lazy all weekend, staying in our pajamas far too much for most standards and getting nothing checked off our non-existent to-do list. We ate pretty well despite the kitchen flops. A pretty great weekend!
